In solidarity with the Ukrainian diaspora in Cyprus, our movement supports the Save Ukrainian Children petition and encourages all of you reading to sign it. We can never forget or forgive the crimes committed by the Russian army. мы объявляем новую акцию в поддержку политзаключенных! Уже почти четверть века преступный российский режим сажает, калечит и убивает честных и сильных людей, которые нашли в себе храбрость ему противостоять. С начала войны в Украине политическим преступлением стало простое желание мира, в котором нет места имперским амбициям и геноциду.

За одни только первые 11 месяцев войны Кремлевская власть задержала 19 535 человек за их антивоенную позицию. Каждый день этот список пополняется все новыми и новыми людьми. Это — страшное продолжение кампании по уничтожению несогласия в России силовым путем.

4 июня — День Рождения Алексея Навального, человека, анти-Кремлевская деятельность которого привела к девяти годам колонии. Антивоенные высказывания Навального привели к 16 “попаданиям” в ШИЗО. Мы призывали к немедленному освобождению Алексея и всех политзаключенных в июне и в декабре прошлого года. Мы не можем не выходить, пока такие люди как Илья Яшин, Лилия Чанышева, Алексей Навальный, Владимир Кара-Мурза, Светлана Петрийчук и Евгения Беркович не будут на свободе!

Главный повод для политических репрессий в современной России — несогласие с войной. В рамках поддержки политзаключенных мы выступим против агрессивной войны и за скорейшее крушение криминального российского режима. Мы требуем вернуть все войска на международно признанную территорию РФ и компенсировать ущерб, причиненный народу Украины!

On May 5th, the Russian Anti-War Community has sent an open letter to the Limassol Municipality, signed by various representatives, proposing a ban on displaying all symbols typically used by the Russian government and its supporters, including the Ribbon of Saint George, and the letters ‘Z’ and ‘V’ at public gatherings. Similar letters have also been sent by representatives of the Ukrainian and Lithuanian diasporas residing in Cyprus, but the Victory Day ‘festivities’ still regretfully proceeded as planned.

The representatives of the Anti-War Community, together with members of the Ukrainian and Lithuanian diasporas, protested at the Limassol Town Hall on May 7th, demonstrating that support for the war in Ukraine has no place in Cyprus. On May 9th, they also participated in an impromptu protest near the Victory Day ‘festivities’ at the Molos promenade, displaying the white-blue-white flag, commonly seen as a flag of Russian anti-war movements and communities worldwide, to support the immediate retreat of Russian forces from Ukraine and full reparations paid to Ukraine in the aftermath.

The Russian Anti-War Community expresses its gratitude to the Limassol Police for protecting the representatives of all diasporas who participated in the protests on May 7th and May 9th. In solidarity with the Ukrainian embassy in Cyprus, the Community reiterates that pro-Russian actions cannot be allowed in Cyprus or any other EU country and commits to continuing its opposition to any expressions of ‘ruscism’ in Cyprus. We call on Cyprus municipalities to carefully review any events with ties to Rossotrudnichestvo or the Coordination Council of Russian Compatriots in Cyprus — the former organization is placed on the EU sanctions list. As such, any events with links to these entities can be disguised attempts to express support for the current Russian state.

Over 400 People Join Russian Anti-War Rallies in Limassol and Nicosia

On 24 February, the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the Russian Anti-War Community in Cyprus staged rallies in Limassol and Nicosia to protest against the war, the regime of Vladimir Putin and in solidarity with the victims of Putin’s war against Ukraine. The protests were a part of the global action held by the Russian diasporas worldwide on the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine (The year of terror).

The rallies were held in Limassol and Nicosia, where a total of over 400 people attended the action.

At the primary action in Limassol, over 300 people attended. Following the protest at the Honorary Russian Consulate against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the domestic Russian repression, the protesters marched towards the Molos Amphitheatre through the Old Town. At the Amphitheater, the protesters shared their personal stories of being affected by the war and the repression.

At the auxiliary rally in Nicosia, some 100 people assembled at the Russian Embassy to protest. During the rally, the activists were being recorded by the Embassy staff from inside the building. By the end of the action, several unidentified middle-aged men in civilian clothing attempted to film the protesters while hurling insults at them in Russian, to be eventually chased off by the police.

Following the protest, the Nicosia activists marched towards the Eleftheria Square where they joined the Ukrainian action (Light Will Win Over Darkness).

8 февраля 2023 наши активисты Alexey Drobyshev и Natalia Lillytou провели встречу с заместителем главы Представительства Европейской Комиссии в Республике Кипр г-ном Николаосом Исарисом. Встреча прошла в Европейском доме в Никосии.

В ходе встречи активисты презентовали сообщество антивоенно настроенных россиян, живущих на Кипре - сообщество политически активных россиян, публично противостоящих режиму Владимира Путина и разделяющих основные ценности демократии, уважения человеческого достоинства, прав человека и правового государства.

Алексей и Наталия рассказали представительству Еврокомиссии об объёме активности сообщества (включая, но не ограничиваясь, протестные акции, которые сообщество регулярно проводит на Кипре) и обсудили вопросы и сложности, встающие перед живущими на Кипре и в Евросоюзе россиянами, которые публично высказываются против российского режима и его преступной агрессии против Украины.

Заместитель главы представительства пояснил, что санкционная политика Евросоюза направлена на ликвидацию возможностей Кремля по ведению войны против Украины, а не против гражданского общества и российских граждан.

Мы признательны команде представительства за выслушивание нашей позиции и надеемся, что открытые каналы коммуникации между российским антивоенным сообществом на Кипре и представительством Еврокомисии на Кипре помогут в продвижении понимания важности демократических ценностей среди россиян в странах-членах ЕС и за их пределами, а также в формировании соответствующих политико-регуляторных решений в Евросоюзе.

On 8 February 2023 our activists Alexey Drobyshev and Natalia Lillytou met with the deputy Head of the European Commission Representation in the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikolaos Isaris at the EU House in Nicosia.

During the meeting, the activists presented the community of anti-war Russians living in Cyprus, which is a grassroots movement of politicized Russians actively and vocally opposing the regime of Vladimir Putin and subscribing to the core values of democracy, respect for human dignity, human rights and the rule of law.

Alexey Drobyshev and Natalia Lillytou informed the European Commission Representation of the scope of the activities of the community (including but not limited to protest rallies that the community regularly holds across Cyprus) and discussed issues and difficulties faced by the Russians who live in Cyprus and the EU and are vocally opposed to the Russian regime and its criminal aggression against Ukraine.

The deputy Head of Representation explained that the EU sanctions’ policy is aimed at removing Kremlin’s capacity to wage its war against Ukraine and not against the civil society and Russian citizens.

We are grateful to the staff of the Representation for listening to us and hope that the open channels of communication between the Russian Anti-War Community in Cyprus and the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus will assist in promoting the importance of democratic values among Russians in and outside the EU Member States and in shaping the relevant policy decisions in the EU.

Митинг в Лимасоле 21 января в поддержку политзаключенных

Почти 200 человек собрались на набережной Молос в поддержку политзаключенных в России и в противодействие режиму Владимира Путина и его вторжения в Украину.

Мероприятие было организовано антивоенным сообществом на Кипре и привязано к годовщине ареста Алексея Навального после возвращения в Россию 17 января 2021 года после его отравления.

Активисты произнесли речи, организовали музыкальное представление и сбор средства для ОВД-Инфо (российской некоммерческой организации, оказывающей юридическую помощь активистам, задержанным в России за политическую позицию и протестную деятельность). А также провели аукцион в пользу украинской организации, оказывающей помощь пожилым людям в Украине.

После основного мероприятия активисты прошли маршем по набережной Молоса, скандируя лозунги против войны в Украине и в поддержку российских политзаключенных. Затем участники собрались в амфитеатре для общения в режиме открытого микрофона.

Акция прошла в рамках глобальной инициативы российских эмигрантов по всему миру в поддержку политзаключенных и против путинского режима и его вторжению в Украину.

Russians opposing Putin rally in Limassol on 21 January in support of political prisoners

Almost 200 people gathered at the Molos promenade in Limassol on Friday, 21 January in support of political prisoners in Russia and to oppose Vladimir Putin’s regime and his invasion of Ukraine.

The event was organized by the Russian Anti-War Community in Cyprus and the timing of the event was tied to the anniversary of the arrest and imprisonment of Alexey Navalny following his return to Russia on 17 January 2021 after his poisoning.

Following the introductory speeches by activists, the activists organized a musical performance to raise funds for OVD-Info (a Russian non-profit providing legal aid to activists detained in Russia for political position and protest activities) and held a fundraising auction for the benefit of a Ukrainian non-profit providing relief to the elderly in Ukraine.

After the main event, the activists marched along the Molos embankment, chanting slogans in opposition to the Ukraine war and in support of Russian political prisoners, including among others Alexey Navalny, Vladimir Kara-Murza, Liliya Chanysheva, and others. The participants finally gathered at the Molos Amphitheater to listen to a rendition of the proposed alternative anthem of a democratic Russia.

The action was a part of a global rally held by Russian expats around the world in support of political prisoners and in opposition of Putin’s regime and its invasion of Ukraine.

Друзья, 21 января в Лимасоле выходим на акцию протеста в поддержку политзаключённых.

Событие приурочено к 17 января — годовщине задержания Алексея Навального.

По оценке ОВД-инфо, только за период с 24 февраля в России и Крыму по политическим мотивам было задержано более 16000 человек. Число граждан, получивших тюремные сроки за политическую позицию за отказ молчать исчисляется тысячами. Репрессии — один из столпов, на которых кремлёвская оргпреступность держится у власти.

21 января мы выходим протестовать против путинских репрессий и поддержать политзаключённых.

Friends, we are holding a rally in support of Russian political prisoners on 21 January 2023 in Limassol.

The timing is not accidental: 17 January marks the anniversary of the arrest of Aleksei Navalny.

According to the estimates by OVD-info, over 16000 people were arrested in Russia and Russian-occupied Crimea just from 24 February. The number of prison sentences stamped out to those who dared to voice their political stance and refused to keep the silence is in the thousands. Repression is one of the cornerstones and foundations of the Kremlin mafia’s grip on power.

On 21 January we rally against putin’s repression and in support of political prisoners.

The bloody full-scale war has already been going on for 286 days.

Putin and the Russian army are destroying critical civilian infrastructure of the Ukrainian cities in an attempt to break the spirit of the Ukrainians. While we are staying in safe and warm conditions, many Ukrainians have to survive a blackout with no heating or access to water.

On 4 December 2022 we held a Stop Terror / Winter is Here rally in Limassol, Cyprus, to raise funds in support of Ukrainians. We spoke of charitable initiatives, held an auction, and thanks to Nick and his magical Hang music we collected lots of donations to fund the purchase of generators for Ukrainian hospitals.

We thank everyone who joined us in the rally.
